A different kind of shadow box...

So I've been asked to show how a different style of shadow box to give people ideas on how you can alter designs / change colour and style. This shadow box is certainly outside my usual style but I had lots of fun making it! It's quite girly with the flowers and lace and had a vintage type look!

Canvas love at Crafters Cupboard

Last Saturday I taught a group of lovely ladies at Crafters Cupboard how to make my canvas using various techniques. I really enjoyed it and so did the ladies! They couldn't wait to go home and practice some of the new techniques they had learnt during the day. It was great to see the finished canvas'.  Here are some photos from the day

Picture to page show at Sandown- sorry I missed you!

Sorry I've been missing for a few weeks.... Even the cold and flu injection didn't stop me getting sick this year! I completely lost my voice and unfortunately couldn't run the make and take for Paper magic by Kira Rose at the Picture to Page show at Sandown- luckily Julie managed to do the make and take both Saturday and Sunday. I hope everyone who went to the show had a great time and hopefully I'll see you at the next show.

One perfect day canvas

A friend took this photo and I loved it! Luckily they didn't mind when I asked if I could use it... I had a lot of fun making this canvas, the quote particularly makes me smile! I've been playing with the paper artsy crackle on the background, I've used a mask on the photo to add some additional wire, I've also added 2 decorated tags and lots of my metal findings I have been saving and collecting for a special project. I really love how this canvas has turned out.

Altered canvas- my next class at Crafters cupboard. 19th October

This is the next class I'm teaching at Crafters Cupboard. It's an altered canvas using grunge paste, paper artsy paints and dylusion ink sprays. I have also used punchinella, buttons, paper flowers and charms.
I'm really looking forward to teaching this class on the 19th October !

My first class!

Yesterday, was a very tiring but incredibly exciting day! I taught a class for the first time at Crafters Cupboard. 5 lovely ladies spent the day being taught by me how to make my steampunk clock! Each lady had a finished clock by the end of the class and each clock was completely different! I really enjoyed teaching and I'm already looking forward to next months class - an altered canvas

Girly wreath

So this is something a little different from me. It's a girly wreath I've made from a polystyrene wreath and using modge podge I've covered it with strips of ripped  paper (I used the needle and thread paper range from kaisercraft) and lace. When dry I've sprayed it with pearl glimmer mist so it sparkles and tied some extra lace on.
I've die cut a mannequin from paper and chipboard using a Tim holtz alterations sizzix die and stick them together. I have then inked the edges using tattered rose distress ink and then used crackle accents over the whole mannequin. I had an old hair clip that had a large material flower on- ive pulled the clip part off and used glimmer mist sprays to change the colour of the flower. I've also made more flowers using paper left from the wreath and used a sizzix die to make some small flowers which I have glued onto the wrath at either side of the large flower. To finish my wreath off I have used some decorative pins that my lovely friend Carly makes (I have mentioned Carly in a previous post- check out her blog)

My layout- in a magazine!!

Okay, so it's only in an advert but its still published!!
This is a layout I did for "paper magic by Kira rose " to show what you can use masks for. My design is on the left.

Steam punk clock

This is my new steam punk clock! I have designed and made this clock especially for an online store called Crafters cupboard.  They are based in Berwick,  Victoria and I will be teaching mixed media classes for them starting with this clock on the 14th September. If you would like more information Crafters cupboard will be at Paperific between 30th August- 1st September or you can like them on Facebook or visit their online store www.crafterscupboard.com.au

Layouts, time to do something for me

This weekend I did some page layouts. It not often I get to scrap pages these days as i've always got something off the page going on. This is a layout using the new kaisercraft paper range "needle and thread". I used a number of papers I bought in the paper pack plus collectables. I also used some Kaisercraft cardstock and my Sizzix Tim Holtz Alteration "word play" apha die to create the title.
I think this page reminded me how much I still enjoy making layouts....

Reminding friends they are special

It's a while since i've made a "just because" card. Mostly birthday and anniversary cards are made last minute these days as I don't get the same enjoyment from them. This card was different as the Hopscotch paper range from Kaisercraft really lent themselves to an easy card with lots of impact.
I used one of the papers as a background but the card was mostly made up of the collectables. I arranged them all first till I was happy then took a photo. I then used foam tape to make all the different pieces different heights, this gave a really cool 3d effect. As I took pieces off to apply foam tape I used the photo I had take to get the placement and angle right when sticking them back down.

off the page and yummy papers

At the moment Kaisercraft are retiring many of their paper ranges. One of my (many many) favourite Kaiser paper collections is pickled pear. I have made this off the page 3 drawer peg shelf over 2 nights this week and I love it!
The unit itself is also from Kaisercraft. I started by putting the unit together and painting it with Kaisercraft Sage paint. I used many of the Pickled Pear papers from the paper pack and co-ordinating 12 x 12' sticker page. Rather than using the matching collectables I cut some of the images out of the papers as they seemed bigger. Once all stuck down I used Tom Holtz Distress ink in Bundled Sage around the edges of everything (quite liberally especially around the drawer edges). I love this paper range and will definately be making some more "off the page" items with my leftover papers.

My style? What is it?

I have entered a crafty type competition recently. The project wasn't hard but the question " what is your creative style" really got me......
I love anything with cogs, wheels and metal embellishments like keys and clocks.
But I also really enjoy making my own flowers, and really bright bold colours too.. How do cogs, clocks, metal and flowers go together?

Crafty Carly

These are a couple of completed canvas projects. One was for my mother in law and the other for my mum. They were based on a project I did a couple of years ago as part of a class at A Scrappe Angels Heaven taught by the very talented CarlyAnn Lewis.
Carly is a good friend of mine and you can see more of her work on her blog: http://crafty-carly.blogspot.com.au

For the love of coffee!

I decorated this jar in an attempt to brighten up my desk at work.
It was very simply made by covering the jar with thinned purple glue or similar and then applying a the napkin with a brush with more glue (3ply napkins are best. You then divide the ply's and only use the decorative one). Once completly covered I left it to dry. I then added bling ribbon and washi tape at the top layered ribbon at the bottom and layered a paper flower with a lovely handmade flower I bought online. I also popped one of the handmade flowers on the top to complete my design.
Its a really simple and quick to make. This one is very bright but could be made in more muted colours or to go with a room colour scheme. Without the top it would make a really nice pen holder too.

Designing for someone other than me.....

So part of the reason I started this blog is I've been asked to design some projects for a new online shop called Paper Magic by Kira Rose. These Projects will shortly be available to view on the online shop for inspiration and also at" From picture to page" show at Burwood on the 19th May. There will also be some kits that I have designed available to purchase from the show and afterwards from Paper Magic. I will update you all when the projects are available to see online but in the meantime please visit www.papermagic.com.au and get shopping! Steampunk type clock

I love this clock I made about 3 weeks ago. It was a twiddlybitz clock base I took a craft knife to and removed some of the "girly swirly bits". I then sprayed the clock base with matt black acrylic spray. The cogs in the middle of the face I then accentuated with rub and buff. The background of the clock is an Kaisercraft paper from a retired collection I had been saving in my stash for approx 2-3 years! I then sanded the clock hands to make them look a little more weathered. To decorate I cut some cogs out of chipboard using my Sizzix Bigshot and the Tim Holtz Alterations cog die. I painted these cogs with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze, Viva Inka Gold and Viva Ferro paints to give a range of textures. For further decoration I added globes, toy car wheels (I added rub n buff to the tyres), bolts and nuts. I also used a Maya Road Vintage spool and put some jewellery gauge wire round it to look like wire you would use on a car. I love the fact this clock is at the far edges of scrapbooking and very unusual. My husband took my clock into the workshop (hes a mechanic) to show the boys. I love the fact that his mates all really liked the clock.

Altered tin

I love taking boring dull items that people normally throw away and making them into something pretty. This tin was a gift card tin. It's filled with pretties now, things I love or symbols representing things I enjoy doing.

Footstool upcycle

I love OP shops! One mans trash is another mans treasure or in this case my treasure. This gorgeous footstool was $15 !
After a little tlc this is the finished product

The project that started my blog!

My personal Facebook page is getting a little crowded these days with my crafting, upcycling, sewing and altering going into overdrive so I figured this was the way forward.
I love creating, altering items and upcycling other peoples "junk".
This blog is all about what I get up to- join me, get some inspiration and let me know what you think.
